Will Porsche (be allowed to) Take Le Mans?

Well certainly not this year. The last outright victory Porsche enjoyed was in 1998 using the 911 GT1-98, at this time the maker was still in control of it's destiny.

Now that has all changed. VW AG is now the controller of destiny, not only for Porsche, but for Audi as well - Le Mans winner 9 of past 11 years. Porsche CEO Matthias Muller has stated that a LMP project is being considered, but followed that up with "the only problem is Audi". Will VW AG allow competition from within?

The phrase "racing strengthens the breed" comes to mind, also realizing that someone's feelings would be hurt...

1986 Start of Le Mans

The FIA Group C category from 1982-1993 was dominated by Porsche with the 956/962 series cars.  Tough competition from Jaguar, Lancia, Sauber, and Mazda through-out the series life span kept things interesting though, yes Porsche won in '86.
